Although it was on the 16th of April, it's never too late to bake her a cake and have it all to myself?! As a present, I'm giving her my fat tummy!
Miss Wu brings people together with a simple wave of her magic wand, sexy-as-hell bodz and her cooking is crap-on-a-fricking-cracker-marvelous. Although currently living her life in London, failing to mail me a can of snow, I still love her very much!
Ms Wu always exaggerates my desserts and exaggerates me as a person. She even admitted that I make her life beautiful and special. How can I not be smittened.
So, I baked her a Purple Sweet Potato Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting
Recipe from bon appetit at Epicurious, adapted by moi.
The cake is beautiful on its own. Cinnamon tackles the potatoey feel of the cake (feel free to use other spices). The color, enchanting, like yours truly. BUT lets take it up a notch! My go-to cream cheese frosting by Janni from Allrecipes, adapted by moi.
So let's all wish a happy birthday to my dearest friend, Ms Wu!

I finally found a full-fat tub of yoghurt. Big difference, please use full-fat.
Happy Birthday my dear,
Jesica
I've never heard of purple sweet potatoes before but this sounds good, and looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMWAAAAHAHAHAHA!! THANK YOU!!BUT I want taro CAKE! Strawberry Cake and Rainbow Cake!! PLEASE MAIL THEM ALL OVER BEFORE I GIVE YOU YOUR CAN OF SNOW!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL!! I am coming back to give you your macaroons!! world-rated macaroons ok!!!
@ Lottie: The purple is really dark and beautiful. And its sweet :)
Delete@ Ms Wu: You're welcome and don't be picky! ;p I want a dozen, thank you!
Purple sweet potatoes!! WHAT??!?!??!?!? Hahaha Its one of my fave colours jajaja We just get the regular one here, yellow :P
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks amazing!!!
@ Noelia: I didn't know they existed until recently as well!!! Couldn't believe it!
DeleteI have never had purple sweet potatoes, but beautiful cake! :)
ReplyDeleteWish we could have seen a shot of the inside of the cake!! Would love to see how purple the final cake turned out.
ReplyDelete@ Yudith: Thank you! They dont stain your teeth! ;)
Delete@ Anonymous: I regret not being able to cut a slice as well :( would try to make something with the potatoes again..
I LOOOOVE sweet potatoes and LOOOOVE purple! So I have to find purple sweet potatoes! Where would I look?
ReplyDeleteOh, and I SO wish you had shown a picture of a slice of the cake too!
@ M Bryant: asian wet markets would usually have them. Purple sweet potatoes are usually from japan. If you couldn't find them, taro is a good alternative but you wouldn't get the deep purple. I really regret not being able to cut the cake :( I hate cake posts like that, unfortunately it was to be given away. The purple was dark. really much alike with the mash color itself.
DeletePurple sweet potato looks and sounds amazing - I couldn't believe what that purple picture was of at first! You've iced and decorated your cake beautifully - would love to have seen inside it but I know how it goes - normally a cake is made for a celebration not cutting and photographing on your own!
ReplyDelete@ thelittleloaf: It's extremely purple, so purple that the camera couldn't focus. Partly also due to my skills. I was dying to cut it out but best be professional about it and give it away whole. :)
DeleteI don't think I have ever seen a more gorgeous color on a cake and your presentation is just too lovely for words! Lucky Ms. Wu :)
ReplyDeletechow! Devaki @ weavethousandflavors
@ Devaki: Thank you! Such kind words from you missy! I tried hard ;)
DeleteThese photos are just beautiful! I wish I could dig into this cake right now!
ReplyDelete@ Maggie: I dont do beautiful too much but I tried this time :D Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Jes! This cake is so adorably pretty and I love all the colours. Though, I may not be ultra adventurous, as I have never had a sweet potato cake before, but this might change my mind completely.. Like always, stunning photos my friend! My bday is in Dec. *hint*hint* ;P.. can bake me a cake puhhlsss? Kekekeke.. I sure wish I could share my treats with you.xoxo, Jo
ReplyDelete@ Jo: Our mainland desserts often contain sweet potatoes and the like..? I know I've encountered with at least 20 different sweet potato desserts! But in a western cake, a littleeee "special". I liked the taste but you can't eat too much at one go. I would gladly bake a cake for ya! ;) any reason to bake?!
DeleteMine turned GREEN. So green. First gray, but then really really green. :( :( So sad.
ReplyDeleteAwwwww!! I do believe thats the reaction with the pan you use... Maybe try a different pan?
